I know some wonderful women who also happen to be librarians. They are role models for me as well as great community assets. I thought you would like to meet them.
If you have any questions at all about nonprofit organizations, how to apply for a grant, how to access 990s and search for funders who might be interested in your project, then the person you have to see is Kassy Rodeheaver. She runs the Grants and Nonprofit Information Center based at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library.
Kassy’s duties include maintaining her page(s) on the website, offering workshops on how to access grant information, ordering appropriate reference materials to assist nonprofits, and being available when people come into the Center seeking one-on-one assistance. In addition, she takes her workshop “on the road” to other branches and responds to requests from her colleagues for information.
When asked what she enjoys most about her position she says without hesitation “being on the desk. Teaching others how to search for information is very satisfying.”
Today, November 12 is National Gaming Day and Diana Stirling, the librarian at the Mammoth (AZ) Public Library, is holding an event that promises to be just as fun as the Fall Festival. Board games, computer games, old-fashioned games played outside, Mammoth’s own version of Minute-To-Win-It – there is something for everyone.
Serving a community of 1,750 residents, the library is open 20 hours a week, has a collection of 9,438 volumes and tallies over 21,838 transactions year. Clearly this is the place to be!
