I stumbled upon the Reader’s Almanac on the web, which promotes “classic American writers, classic American books.” The site is the official blog of The Library of America whose tag line is seeking the enduring.
The mission/purpose of About the Library of America states “The Library of America, a nonprofit publisher, is dedicated to publishing, and keeping in print, authoritative editions of America’s best and most significant writing. Best-selling authors published by the Library of America include James Baldwin, Dashiell Hammett, Zora Neale Hurston, Thomas Jefferson, H.P. Lovecraft, Flannery O’Connor, Thomas Paine, Alexis de Tocqueville, and Walt Whitman.”
The November 12 posting featured a review of Nathaniel Philbrick’s book Why Read Moby-Dick? Past blog posts are available for viewing, and links are provided to other blogs on books and literature including The Book Bench (The New Yorker), The Writer’s Almanac (Garrison Keillor), The Old Hag and ivebeenreadinglately, among others.
My blog isn’t listed….yet.
