Cool librarians, Part II

Here are two more librarians I'd like you to meet.

After working for 27 years as a Tucson-Pima Public Library Branch manager and government reference librarian, Jo Riester devotes her time to her grandchildren, her church, and various community groups including the Friends of the Pima County Library, the Catalina High School Foundation, and Habitat for Humanity Tucson.

At Habitat, Jo volunteers as the Thrivent Builds Specialist, which involves helping prepare grant requests to Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, completing periodic reports, providing updates to local Lutheran congregations, and helping with the wallraising and home dedication of the Thrivent-sponsored homes.

Jo participated in the Women of Faith Habitat build held in February.  She is wearing the sweatshirt that says CDO.  Click here and see if you can pick her out among the other participants.

Advi Saavedra works at the Coolidge Public Library.  She’s very busy – in addition to managing the library, coming up on November 18 and 19 is the Friends of the Library book sale that will be held at the Women’s Club; every Wednesday morning is Story Hour for the pre-school set, and there are on-going computer classes.

Advi also volunteers for Habitat for Humanity Tucson as a family partner.  A partner acts as a mentor for a family selected for a Habitat home.  Advi has been paired up with Lourdes Blanco who is an assistant manager at El Pollo Loco and has three children.  Advi attends all of the homeowner education classes with Lourdes and is available in case she has a question.  And Advi was there on September 11 when the walls of Lourdes’ brand-new home were raised – a thrill for both of them.  The Blanco Family will be moving into their home in May and Advi will be there every step of the way, especially on that happy day when the keys are handed over to Lourdes and her children!
